I am a mother of two school-age children, a teacher, and a proud member of my community in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I am growing more and more concerned about the security of information and how information access is being treated by our federal government.
The recent revelation that military operations were being discussed on a group chat -- even on an encrypted site -- with a journalist added so easily and mistakenly, is shocking. It shows a high level of unprofessionalism and lack of understanding about national security measures at the highest level of government leaders.
I also have tremendous concern about DOGE having access to vast amounts of personal information across agencies such as Social Security, the Treasury, and more. If their job is truly to find inefficiencies and streamline government processes, that does not involve access to millions of personal bits of data. There have been processes and checks in place for years in these agencies to restrict access on a need to know basis, and all of that seems to have been disregarded as this one group marches into every agency.
Speak up for higher levels of accountability and oversight for our information -- whether national or personal. Speak up for leadership that will follow the safety and security measures that have been put into place for wise reasons.
Thank you for everything you do, each day, to be the voice for myself and the people in Wisconsin who voted for you.
