Opposition To Recent Continuing Resolution Vote
To: Sen. Hassan, Sen. Shaheen
From: A constituent in Hooksett, NH
March 15
I am writing to express my profound disappointment regarding your recent votes in favor of the Republican-led continuing resolution that narrowly averted a government shutdown.
This bill, which passed the Senate with a 54-46 vote, includes significant increases in defense spending while slashing non-defense discretionary funding by approximately $13 billion. Such cuts threaten vital programs that support working families, healthcare, education, and infrastructure—services that are essential to the well-being of our communities.
By supporting this resolution, you have effectively granted President Trump and his administration, including figures like Elon Musk, greater authority to implement aggressive cuts and restructuring plans that could dismantle critical government functions. This decision undermines the values and priorities that you were elected to uphold and protect.
I urge you to reconsider your approach to such legislation in the future. It is imperative that you stand firm against measures that compromise the integrity of essential public services and empower an administration intent on undermining them. Your constituents expect and deserve representation that advocates for their interests, not one that capitulates to partisan pressures.
I look forward to your response and hope to see a renewed commitment to protecting the programs and services that are vital to the people of New Hampshire.
