The decimation of the federal bureaucracy in the name of DOGE has succeeded on at least one metric…that of making our government comically inefficient. Soon nothing will work as it should. We’ll be handed a list of cost savings, and assured it’s all true and correct. The effects of the theoretical cost savings will become apparent as the system stalls and stops. Then we’ll be forced to start over again to rebuild some sort of workable foundation. Or not. It’s becoming apparent that the intent is more to break, not build. Questions… Why is most every governmental agency, DHS FBI IRS DHI DEA and more no doubt, being pulled away from their primary missions to instead be retrained and deployed for immigration purposes? Why has the FBI cut staffing in an office focused on domestic terrorism and has scrapped a tool used to track such investigations? Are white supremacists and anti-government extremists no longer a concern? (I’m assuming not since January 6ers are now being ensconced comfortably within the government they tried to overthrow.) Why has the immigration focus grown to include any traveler coming into our country that we deem to have violated some aspect of our immigration laws? Our former friends and neighbors are issuing warnings to their citizens if they come to America. How is it that the widely-approved notion of rounding up violent offenders in the country illegally has morphed into a tool to round up anyone? Due process is ignored. Immigration and residency status can be invalidated just because. People are deported, regardless of lack of proof that they should be. Judges are ignored. The administration is currently considering using the state-secrets doctrine that lets the government refuse to provide information in litigation on the grounds that it would harm national security or foreign relations. This means no one, no judge, can be privy to who, what, how or why behind actions by the administration. If that’s not a transparent attempt to circumvent the illegality of actions taken, what would be? All this is happening because Republicans would not and will not work seriously to fix the immigration system. Other creeping cracks in America… Treating the First Amendment as a crime. Extorting public and private universities. Extorting law firms. Threatening of anyone and everyone by the DOJ as the president directs. Our system is overloaded. Our system is being abused. And the people who can hit the brakes have instead relinquished the wheel to drive the car into the ditch. Here’s your thought for the day… “May you renew daily your dedication to justice, and always seek to end each day secure in the knowledge that you showed up and sought justice for your one and only client, the people of the United States of America.” “You serve no man.” Y’all need to start remembering that.
