Maryland is facing a $3 billion deficit, and urgent action is required to address our fiscal challenges. We need to balance the budget while ensuring a fair, competitive economy. I urge you to consider the following proposals that will raise revenue and foster long-term growth without burdening everyday Marylanders. Start taxing luxury wealth, stop allowing monopolies and exploitative practices. Taxing the wealthiest, particularly those benefiting from monopolies, ensures fairness without harming small businesses. The new income tax brackets for high earners are a step in the right direction, and we must continue focusing on closing loopholes that allow the wealthiest to pay less than they should. Start investing in public goods, stop neglecting essential services. Strategic investments in infrastructure, education, and innovation—especially in life sciences and technology—will drive sustainable economic growth. These investments not only create high-paying jobs but improve quality of life for all Marylanders. Start supporting worker co-ops and employee ownership, stop letting workers be exploited. By encouraging worker-owned businesses, we create a more equitable economy where employees share in the success. Tax incentives and resources for co-ops will foster a more balanced and productive workforce. Start smart state intervention, stop subsidizing corporate monopolies. We must support local businesses and stop providing tax breaks that benefit out-of-state corporations. By reducing these subsidies, we keep resources within Maryland, ensuring fair competition and preventing market distortions. Start focusing on long-term fiscal health, stop relying on temporary fixes. Raising taxes on the wealthiest and closing tax loopholes for corporations will generate sustainable revenue. This approach supports Maryland’s future without negatively impacting businesses or middle-income earners. These policies represent a balanced, responsible way to address our budget crisis while fostering a thriving, fair economy. I urge you to take bold action to ensure Maryland’s future is one of shared prosperity.
