Urgent Demand to Reinstate and Redistribute Health Research Funds & Operations

To: Sen. Markey, Sen. Warren, Pres. Trump, Rep. Clark

From: A constituent in Belmont, MA

April 2

I am writing to express deep concern over the recent dismissal of researchers and the reallocation of critical funding away from health institutions that have long served as pillars of medical advancement and patient care. These actions not only threaten scientific progress but also put countless lives at risk by depriving communities of essential health resources. I urge you to reinstate these jobs and redistribute funds to sustain and enhance our current health institutions. Over the past century, medical research has dramatically improved human health, extending life expectancy and enhancing quality of life worldwide. Groundbreaking discoveries in antibiotics, vaccines, cancer treatments, and chronic disease management have saved millions of lives. The eradication of smallpox, the drastic reduction in polio cases, and advancements in cardiovascular treatments are just a few examples of how sustained investment in research yields undeniable benefits for public health. Dismantling these efforts by defunding research and reducing institutional support is not only counterproductive—it is inhumane. Stripping funding from institutions that provide life-saving care and develop new medical treatments denies people the right to health and well-being. It disproportionately affects vulnerable populations who rely on these services the most. No ethical government should willfully compromise the health of its citizens by neglecting to support the very foundations of medical progress. Moreover, allowing such actions to proceed could be interpreted as a form of passive population control through neglect, which is not only morally reprehensible but also a fundamental violation of human rights. Leadership should be measured by how well a nation protects and uplifts its people, not by how it abandons them in the name of financial or political expediency. I call upon you to take immediate action to: 1 Reinstate researchers and health professionals who have been displaced so that their expertise can continue to benefit society. 2 Redistribute and restore funding to critical health institutions to ensure ongoing advancements in medicine, treatment accessibility, and public health initiatives. 3 Publicly commit to supporting science and health as non-negotiable priorities that serve all people, regardless of socioeconomic status. History has shown that societies that invest in research and healthcare thrive, while those that neglect these pillars face dire consequences. The choice is clear—either stand for progress and humanity or risk the health and stability of our nation. I urge you to fight for these stances and make the right and best decision for ALL people in our country.
