Giving the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), overseen by Elon Musk, unfettered access to sensitive unemployment data is deeply concerning. This data contains personal information like addresses, Social Security numbers, and employment details — AKA Personal Identifying Information (PII). In corporate America, PII requires strict security handling. Providing an unelected billionaire (Musk) with this sensitive information poses significant risks. Privacy and legal experts warn that this data could be weaponized against vulnerable communities or leveraged for policy goals beyond its intended use. The data could be used for political or immigration enforcement purposes, violating due process and privacy rights, or otherwise destroying a person’s livelihood. Keep DOGE/Musk out of Americans’ PII.
