Don't throw cancer patients and the immunocompromised under the bus

To: Gov. Hochul, Assembly Member Gallagher, Sen. Gonzalez

From: A constituent in Brooklyn, NY

March 22

A mask ban would put the lives of cancer patients and immunocompromised individuals at severe risk on public transit. Those with weakened immune systems from cancer treatment or other conditions rely on masks to protect themselves from respiratory infections that your policies have failed to control. Prohibiting mask use on the subway would make this vital transportation inaccessible and endanger their health and safety. As an elected official, you have a duty to serve all New Yorkers, including the most vulnerable among us. I urge you to consider the devastating consequences a mask ban would have for cancer survivors and the immunocompromised community before moving forward with this shortsighted policy.
