I urge you to reconsider revoking the legal status of the 240,000 Ukrainians who fled the Russian invasion and were welcomed under the previous administration. These individuals left their homes and lives behind due to the brutal conflict, and deporting them would be an inhumane response to their plight. Many no longer have homes to return to, as entire towns have been leveled by the fighting. Sending them back to such devastation would be unconscionable. Furthermore, some of these Ukrainians, like the former Afghan intelligence officer Rafi, provided vital assistance to American forces. Rafi risked his life working shoulder-to-shoulder with U.S. troops to combat the enemy. Revoking his legal status and detaining him displays a shocking disregard for the sacrifices made by our allies. We should honor our commitments to those who supported our military efforts, not betray them. The United States has long been a beacon of hope for those fleeing war and oppression. Turning our backs on innocent Ukrainians escaping Russian aggression would undermine our values and global standing. I implore you to allow these individuals to remain and rebuild their lives in safety until they can eventually return home. Showing compassion reflects the best of the American spirit.
