Reject discriminatory gender definitions, protect LGBTQ+ rights and inclusion

To: Rep. Mathis, Sen. Sundareshan, Rep. Gutierrez, Gov. Hobbs

From: A verified voter in Tucson, AZ

March 7

This proposed legislation, House Bill 2062, seeks to narrowly define "male" and "female" based solely on reproductive capacity, disregarding the complexities of gender identity and expression. Such rigid definitions fail to account for the diversity of human experience and can marginalize transgender, non-binary, and intersex individuals. Restricting data collection on sexual orientation and gender identity would impede our understanding of the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ communities, hindering efforts to provide essential support services. Furthermore, mandating binary gender classification in schools and government agencies promotes an exclusionary environment that undermines principles of equality and inclusivity. I urge you to consider the harmful impact House Bill 2062 could have on vulnerable populations and instead prioritize policies that foster respect, understanding, and equal rights for all citizens, regardless of gender identity or expression.
