I am dismayed and angry at the dismantling of the Department of Education. As a retired teacher of English Learners, current teacher consultant, and parent to students with student loan debt and one receiving support from Services for the Blind, the Department of Education is an important part of our lives. Continuity in educational programming is important to students and teachers, and this much causes great uncertainty and disruption. Attempts to erase DEI will have negative effects on the education of our English learners as well as my daughter with a visual impairment as well as a physical impairment. My older daughter just had to fill out a paper copy to send in the mail to consolidate her student loans. Who knows how long that will take now? My daughter who receives Services for the Blind has been told that her services will likely change with downsizing of staff. Really?!? There aren't enough case workers as it is. Her service is likely to go backwards when she is just getting going with career exploration. We need to stop dismantling all the services that people rely on and work with organizations to reform from within where needed. Please advocate for the discontinuation of the dismantling of essential services.
