I am your constituent and I want you to know the effects of the cuts to Medicaid and SNAP will have on all of us.
According to the Commonwealth Fund over 1 million jobs nation wide will be lost NEXT YEAR. Almost a half a million of that loss will be in the healthcare industry and 143,000 in the food industry. The rest are collateral damage. Moreover, states will lose $18 billion in revenues due to the lost income tax and the business contraction this will create.
If that weren’t enough I want you to remember that 42.1 million of us need nutrition assistance to eat - that budget is cut by over 20%. 79 million of us can only get to a doctor because of Medicaid and that’s been cut by almost 12%.
I want you to decry the damage this will do to your constituents and then take action to reverse the damage done to us.
How about a living minimum wage instead of the minimum poverty wage of $7.25/hour? Then maybe we could afford food. We sent you there to help us not to let the government kick us when we are down.
