The actions described regarding the use of the Alien Enemies Act and deportations to El Salvador's notorious prison system are extremely concerning. Depriving individuals of due process and subjecting them to inhumane conditions without evidence of wrongdoing violates fundamental principles of justice and human rights. This approach demonizes and brutalizes vulnerable migrant populations in an unacceptable manner. We must uphold the Constitution and rule of law. Authoritarian overreach that disregards civil liberties cannot be tolerated. All available lawful measures should be pursued to stop these abuses and hold those responsible accountable. Preserving our democratic values and protecting human rights must be prioritized over any misguided policies based on vilification and cruelty towards migrants. A course correction grounded in ethics and due process is urgently needed.
