Free Rumeysa Ozturk - free speech is not a crime

To: Rep. Moore, Sen. Baldwin, Sen. Johnson

From: A constituent in Milwaukee, WI

March 27

I am your constituent, and I am horrified by the abduction by federal agents of Rumeysa Ozturk, a Turkish PHD student at Tufts University. DHS is saying that they picked her up because she "engaged in activities in support of Hamas." What activities? As far as anyone has reported to date all she did is co-author an editorial. Is that no longer allowed? I don’t agree with most of the pro-Palestinian protestors, but they have a perfect right to protest - the first amendment guarantees free speech to ALL people in the United States. University campuses should be a place for the free and open exchange of ideas. The fact that someone can just be abducted, or that someone can face deportation for voicing an idea the Trump administration disagrees with is totally un-American. It is illegal and unconstitutional. What are you doing to help free her, and to stop these assaults on our first amendment rights?
