Don’t allow HR 1839 to pass. Let the ICC do their jobs

To: Rep. Bergman, Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin

From: A constituent in Posen, MI

March 6

The proposed bill to prevent the use of United Nations facilities in the United States by the International Criminal Court (ICC) is a concerning move that undermines the principles of international justice and accountability. The ICC plays a crucial role in prosecuting war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide when national courts are unwilling or unable to do so. Restricting its access to UN facilities would hinder its ability to carry out its mandate and could potentially shield perpetrators from facing consequences for their actions. It is essential to uphold the rule of law and support mechanisms that promote accountability for human rights violations. The ICC is an important institution that helps ensure that the most heinous crimes do not go unpunished. Instead of obstructing its operations, the United States should engage constructively with the Court and work towards strengthening the global system of justice. I urge you to reconsider this proposed legislation and prioritize the pursuit of justice and the protection of human rights. The United States has historically championed these values, and it should continue to do so by facilitating the work of the ICC rather than impeding it.
