The FBI's move to potentially criminalize recipients of EPA climate grants under the Biden administration is an unwarranted overreach that threatens important environmental work. These organizations applied for and received grants through proper government channels to carry out crucial projects related to climate science and mitigating climate impacts. Labeling them as potentially engaged in fraud or conspiracy is a baseless accusation that appears politically motivated. This harassment of climate groups undermines legitimate scientific efforts and obstructs progress on addressing the climate crisis. The decision to freeze the groups' bank accounts should be immediately reversed, and the EPA should be allowed to continue supporting vital environmental initiatives without improper interference or intimidation tactics from law enforcement agencies. Safeguarding our planet's future requires enabling, not criminalizing, research and action on climate change.
