Investigate DOGE & Musk: Protect Our Government’s Integrity

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the actions of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the leadership of Elon Musk. Recent developments indicate that DOGE's initiatives have led to significant disruptions within our federal government, raising alarms about potential conflicts of interest, accountability, and the overall efficacy of these measures. Notably, Vice President J.D. Vance has acknowledged that Musk has made "mistakes" in executing mass layoffs of federal employees through DOGE. These layoffs have not only resulted in a loss of critical expertise but have also compromised the functionality of essential government services. Moreover, there are growing concerns about the lack of transparency and potential conflicts of interest associated with Musk's dual roles as a private entrepreneur and a government advisor. Reports suggest that Musk's companies, which have substantial federal contracts, may benefit from DOGE's actions, thereby undermining public trust in our institutions. The recent elimination of the 18F office within the General Services Administration (GSA) under DOGE's directive has further exacerbated these concerns. This move has been criticized as a significant setback for government technology services, potentially hindering efforts to modernize and improve federal digital infrastructure. Additionally, DOGE's budgetary claims have come under scrutiny. For instance, an alleged $8 billion saving was later revealed to be a miscalculation, with the actual figure being $8 million. Such discrepancies cast doubt on the credibility of DOGE's reported achievements and highlight the need for rigorous oversight. Furthermore, the abrupt and poorly planned return-to-office orders have resulted in federal employees facing substandard working conditions, including inadequate workspaces and health hazards. These actions have been perceived as attempts to create hostile work environments, potentially leading to further attrition of valuable public servants. Given these developments, I urge you to: 1 Initiate a comprehensive investigation into DOGE's activities, focusing on potential conflicts of interest, the impact on federal workforce morale and efficiency, and the accuracy of reported budgetary savings. 2 Advocate for the reinstatement of essential government offices, such as 18F, that have been unjustly dismantled under DOGE's directives. 3 Ensure that any future government efficiency initiatives are conducted with full transparency, adhere to ethical standards, and involve input from experienced public servants to prevent the erosion of critical government functions.
