I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent executive order aimed at dismantling the U.S. Department of Education. This decision could have far-reaching consequences for students, educators, and families across the nation.
The Department of Education plays a critical role in ensuring equitable access to quality education, administering federal student aid, and enforcing civil rights protections in schools. Its programs, such as Title I funding for low-income schools and Pell Grants for college students, are lifelines for millions of Americans striving for a better future.
Eliminating the department risks exacerbating educational inequities, disrupting student loan programs, and undermining support for vulnerable populations, including students with disabilities and those from low-income families. While I understand the desire to reduce federal overreach, I believe this approach jeopardizes the very foundation of our education system.
I urge you to oppose any efforts to dismantle the Department of Education and to advocate for policies that strengthen, rather than weaken, our commitment to education. Our children’s future—and the future of our nation—depends on it.
Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I look forward to hearing your stance on this matter.
