A Call for Change: The Shameful Treatment of Our Foreign Allies
To: Sen. Pugh, Rep. Osburn
From: A constituent in Edmond, OK
March 18
I am writing today as a deeply concerned citizen who has watched, with growing disappointment, the way our nation has treated some of our closest foreign allies in recent months. The actions of our leaders do not reflect the values of respect, cooperation, and diplomacy that have long defined America’s relationships around the world.
First, the treatment of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his recent visit to the Oval Office was nothing short of shameful. President Zelensky has led his nation through unimaginable hardship, standing as a symbol of courage and resilience in the face of aggression. To dismiss him, speak to him with open contempt, or treat him as anything less than a respected ally undermines everything this country should stand for. It sends a dangerous message—not only to Ukraine but to the world—that America no longer honors its commitments or values the sacrifices made by our allies.
Equally disappointing was the decision to impose tariffs on Canadian goods. Canada is not just a neighbor; it is one of our oldest and most loyal allies. Our two nations have stood together through war, peace, and prosperity. Slapping punitive tariffs on Canadian products for political gain is not just bad policy—it is a betrayal of that friendship. It weakens our economic ties, sows division where there should be unity, and damages the trust that has taken generations to build.
These actions do not represent me or millions of other Americans who believe in the strength of our alliances. I am calling on you—and all our government leaders—to demand better. We must treat our friends with the respect they deserve and the loyalty they have earned. Anything less is unacceptable.
Thank you for your time and attention to this urgent matter. I hope you will raise your voice in defense of our allies and work toward restoring the integrity of our foreign relationships.
