Reconsider discriminatory ban on trans girls in sports

To: Rep. Green, Gov. Whitmer, Sen. Daley

From: A verified voter in North Branch, MI

March 16

The resolution urging a ban on transgender girls from participating in girls' sports raises serious concerns about discrimination and the exclusion of vulnerable youth. Denying trans girls the opportunity to play sports alongside their peers can have devastating impacts on their mental health, self-esteem, and overall well-being. Rather than promoting safety and fairness, such a policy marginalizes an already marginalized group and perpetuates harmful stereotypes. Sports play a crucial role in child development, teaching teamwork, discipline, and fostering a sense of belonging. Barring trans girls from these experiences denies them equal access to the benefits of athletic participation. Moreover, existing policies allow for case-by-case evaluations to ensure fair competition, rendering a blanket ban unnecessary and discriminatory. I urge you to reconsider this resolution and instead prioritize the inclusion and acceptance of all students, regardless of gender identity. Promoting an environment where every child feels welcome and supported should be the paramount concern. Let us work towards creating a more just and equitable society for all.
