I’m writing to strongly urge you to overturn the March 14 executive order, intended to dismantle the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and to continue at least level funding for IMLS in fiscal year 2026. As an avid reader, some of my best childhood memories include family trips to the library where we took out as many books as we were allowed, and then curled up on the couch to read for hours. To this day, I do the same. The idea that today’s children might be deprived of memories like these, or that anyone who can’t afford books would be deprived of the rich worlds that live within books of all genres, fiction and non-fiction, breaks my heart. Please take action to protect our libraries.
