Demand for Accountability Over Misuse of Signal App by Trump’s Cabinet Officials

To: Rep. Kelly, Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick

From: A verified voter in Cranberry Township, PA

April 1

I am writing to express my deep concern and outrage over reports that members of former President Trump’s cabinet used the encrypted messaging app Signal—an unapproved platform for classified information—to discuss war plans with a journalist. This blatant disregard for national security protocols is not only a violation of federal record-keeping laws but also a reckless endangerment of the service members who risk their lives for this country. It is unacceptable that senior officials, entrusted with the highest responsibilities of government, engaged in such a dangerous breach of protocol. The use of an app that does not retain records is a clear attempt to evade accountability, undermining both transparency and national security. These officials, along with Trump himself, must be held responsible for their actions. If an ordinary service member mishandled classified information in this way, they would face severe consequences—why should cabinet officials be treated any differently? I urge you to push for a full investigation into this matter and to demand accountability for all those involved. Safeguarding our nation’s security should never be a partisan issue. I, along with many others in your constituency, expect you to take a strong stand against this reckless behavior and ensure that those responsible face the appropriate legal and ethical consequences. I appreciate your time and look forward to your response on what steps you will take to address this serious issue.
