Maintain protections for Ukrainian refugees fleeing Russian invasion
To: Sen. Moody, Sen. Scott, Rep. Mills
From: A constituent in Winter Park, FL
March 6
It is deeply concerning to learn of plans to revoke the Temporary Protected Status for around 240,000 Ukrainians who sought refuge in the United States from the devastating Russian invasion of their homeland. These individuals fled unimaginable violence and upheaval, leaving behind their lives and livelihoods. Revoking their legal status and potentially deporting them would be an inhumane act, forcing them to return to an active war zone or seek asylum elsewhere. The United States has a moral obligation to provide safe harbor for those fleeing conflicts and humanitarian crises. Ukrainians deserve our empathy, compassion, and continued protection until it is truly safe for them to return home. Withdrawing this lifeline would not only jeopardize their wellbeing but also undermine America's values and global standing as a beacon of hope for the persecuted. I urge you to reconsider this misguided policy and instead work to extend and strengthen protections for Ukrainian refugees. Upholding our nation's humanitarian commitments is not only the right thing to do but also crucial for maintaining our credibility on the world stage. Let us continue to stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people during their time of immense suffering.
