I'm writing to express grave concern over the recent detainments of lawful permanent residents and students like Mahmoud Khalil, Badar Khan Suri, and Rumeysa Ozturk by immigration authorities. These individuals are being deprived of their constitutional rights and due process solely for engaging in peaceful protest activities protected by the First Amendment. Revoking their legal immigration status without any formal charges or court proceedings is a blatant violation of civil liberties that sets a dangerous precedent for suppressing dissent. The government must immediately release Khalil, Suri, Ozturk and any others wrongfully detained, return them to their families, and cease these unconstitutional actions against lawful immigrants exercising free speech. Failure to do so undermines fundamental American values of free expression and equal protection under the law. I urge you to use your authority to defend these constitutional rights and prevent further abuse of power by the administration against peaceful protesters. Protecting civil liberties is essential for maintaining our democracy.
