I'm fortunate as a community college science instructor. My class size is limited to 24 students by the number of seats we have in lab. Not so in the K-12 schools. Even when I taught high school in the 90s, class sizes were too large. Now, thanks to pressure from the anti-tax crowd starting in the 80s, schools are woefully underfunded and overcrowded. Our students need the best education that our tax dollars can provide. Education research shows that two things significantly and consistently affect school performance: socioeconomic status and class size. That is why I support HB 3652, making class size and caseload mandatory subjects of collective bargaining. Give our teachers the power to regulate class size, giving them the best opportunity to give each and every student the attention they need. Please support this bill.
