Defend democracy, respect rule of law, uphold Constitution

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer, Rep. Stefanik

From: A constituent in Lake Placid, NY

March 19

The Trump administration's blatant disregard for the rule of law and judicial orders is deeply concerning. Defying a federal judge's clear order to halt deportations under the outdated Alien Enemies Act sets a dangerous precedent of executive overreach. Rushing planes out of U.S. jurisdiction to avoid compliance undermines the system of checks and balances fundamental to our democracy. The court has the authority to ensure adherence to its rulings, regardless of airspace boundaries. Ignoring legitimate orders and mocking the judicial process erodes public trust in our institutions. This administration's actions, from firing officials without cause to unconstitutionally empowering unelected billionaires like Elon Musk, represent an alarming consolidation of power. The forced shutdown of USAID stripped Congress of its constitutional role and deprived the public of services created through proper legislative channels. Likewise, neutering the FTC removes vital consumer protections and enables the very corporate abuses the commission was designed to prevent. I urge you to uphold your sworn duty to defend the Constitution by reining in these authoritarian overreaches. Respect the rule of law and judicial rulings. Reinstate the rightfully appointed officials and allow federal agencies to fulfill their congressionally mandated roles transparently and without undue private influence. Unchecked executive abuse jeopardizes our democracy's core principles. Preserve these vital norms before further damage is done.
