I believe that this budget, with its focus on extending tax cuts for the wealthy, is a step in the wrong direction. Instead of prioritizing the well-being of working families, it disproportionately benefits the wealthiest individuals and corporations. Meanwhile, critical programs that support the poor, such as Medicaid, are at risk of being cut, which will hurt those who need help the most.
I urge you to follow Senate norms and procedures and ensure that this budget proposal is thoroughly scrutinized. Please don’t bypass the Senate’s rules or ignore the advice of the parliamentarian for the sake of pushing through a policy that will increase the deficit. We need a budget that prioritizes healthcare, social services, and investing in our communities, not one that gives tax breaks to those who need them the least.
Please stand up for working families and vote against this budget unless it includes protections for Medicaid and other essential programs.
