Oppose SB254 – be on the side of science

To: Sen. Halpern, Rep. Olaleye

From: A verified voter in Atlanta, GA

March 28

I’d like to voice my opposition to to SB254, to ban hemp products and THC beverages. I’m not even sure how this state bill would be legal considering the Federal Farm Bill has made these products legal. These products are legal, do no harm by comparison to alcohol which harms people – both adult and child alike – every single day in the state of Georgia. Studies show that THC- & Hemp-derived products are better for PTSD recovery for our service members, better than controlled substances for managing myriad health issues, and are an excellent source of tax revenue for the state and municipalities with shops that allow them. The current kind of thinking happening in our legislature is outdated & based on false information. Science is on the side of THC and hemp for mental and physical health. Georgia is WOEFULLY behind our large market counterparts like Denver, Portland, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. They’ve figured out how to use the tax revenue from these products to bolster their communities. It feels like Georgia is hell-bent on doing the exact opposite unless politicians can line their pockets with the revenue from them. I need y’all to catch up to 2025 and believe science over the likes of “Reefer Madness.” Literally, grow up and get this money for our communities. Your jobs depend on it. I will vote accordingly.
