Today I learned a great deal about Tuberculosis while listening to the Science Friday program from WNYC. I learned that although Tuberculosis has been largely eliminated as an active disease in the United States, that it continues to to be a terrible scourge throughout the developing world. However, there are wonderful advances that have occurred that make it possible to better target the specific medications that are needed by each patient even in very poor countries. However, to fight the disease, doctors and collaborating researchers around the world rely on USAID funds. Tuberculosis is a terrible disease that exists everywhere in the world, even in the US, where we have systems to suppress active outbreaks. We can't let this disease get away from us again. Please restore the funding so desperately needed from USAID to do this incredibly important work, It is in all of our best interests.
