Another day in the spiraling descent of the United States of America. Not a day passes without more displays of the belligerent incompetence of the Trump administration, but on day 63 there were two revelations that provided new levels of clarity. In one, the DoD confirmed DEI language on federal websites is being scrubbed out using AI. AI is not presently considered by experts to be at a level where it can or should be used for high risk/high sensitivity decision making without careful oversight. Even AI responses to standard queries are not guaranteed by any company I am aware of. Indeed, use of AI responses are at your own risk. On day 63, though, the DoD confirmation makes it reasonable to conclude AI analyses have been a Trump Administration tool of choice. One result: Everything about the Navajo Wind Talkers was purged from DoD websites by the AI model in use. Upon complaint by and for the honorable soldiers disrespected by that purge DoD restored at least some of the scrubbed out history. Explanation offered: unintentional slip up caused by use of AI. The scorched earth purges of programs and personnel being carried out by the Trump Administration now appear clearly consistent with the use of AI to identify what and who should be cut out of the US government, which also seems consistent with Elon Musk’s using young digital wizards to perform DOGE examinations of government staffing and expenditures, then executing upon their recommendations. That is, fraud, waste and abuse are being identified using analytical methods with no knowledge of government function because the agents applying those methods have no such knowledge. Those agents are providing recommendations to superiors who have no more relevant knowledge than they have, and which superiors have been convicted of fraud, exploited government funding, or are currently contracted to provide massive commercial services to the very government that they are dismantling. All can see what is happening, but we have to wait until the damage is undeniable, and irreparable before our Congress, whose responsibility it is to stop such, at best, inept behavior, will admit to what is being done to our nation.
