Save the Institute of Museum and Library Services

To: Sen. Moody, Rep. Soto, Pres. Trump, Sen. Scott

From: A constituent in Kissimmee, FL

March 18

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent Executive Order issued on March 14, 2025, which directs further cuts to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). As a vital agency that provides critical resources to libraries and museums across all 50 states and territories, IMLS plays an essential role in preserving our cultural heritage and supporting educational initiatives.

IMLS operates on a minimal budget, constituting only 0.0046% of the overall federal budget1. Despite its small size, the agency efficiently delivers significant benefits to communities nationwide. The proposed cuts would essentially dismantle IMLS, depriving countless institutions of the support they need to serve the public effectively.

Museums and libraries are cornerstones of our society, offering educational programs, preserving history, and fostering community engagement. The loss of IMLS funding would have a devastating impact on these institutions, hindering their ability to provide these invaluable services.

I urge you to consider the far-reaching consequences of this Executive Order and to take action to protect the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Preserving IMLS is not just about maintaining an agency; it is about safeguarding the cultural and educational fabric of our nation.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I hope you will join me in advocating for the continued support and funding of IMLS.
