Never condemn those brave enough to speak out

To: Sen. Padilla, Rep. Bera, Sen. Schiff

From: A constituent in Sacramento, CA

March 6

It is deeply concerning that representatives from my own party voted to censure Al Green for voicing valid opposition to the current administration's harmful policies. Attempts to stifle dissent and curb free speech are unacceptable in a democracy. Al Green had every right to protest the proposed Medicaid cuts that would drastically impact millions of vulnerable Americans. His act of civil disobedience should be supported, not condemned. Elected officials have a responsibility to hold power to account and advocate for their constituents' wellbeing, even if it means vocally challenging the president. Censuring those who speak truth to power only emboldens further injustice and erosion of democratic values. I urge all members of Congress to defend the right to protest and reject any efforts to silence justified criticism. Our representatives must remain a check on the executive branch, not rubber stamps. Preserving robust public discourse is essential for an informed electorate and a healthy republic.
