I urge you to oppose and fight against HB 587 "Revise mine reclamation laws”.
This bill would change the definition of "material damage" caused by coal mines and thus make it harder for the public to hold corporations or Montana's environmental regulators responsible for damaging resources. We all drink water that has been touched by mining or other resource extraction industry. We all have the right to safe and accessible water and environment. As an example, ranchers and farmers in Montana are already paying high costs from water damage caused by mines, but they are far from being the only people who are impacted by environmental damages committed by industrial corporations. As your constituent and fellow American, I urge you to take action against this bill.
