Reject discriminatory policy against transgender passport access

To: Rep. Smith, Sen. Cantwell, Sen. Murray

From: A constituent in Seattle, WA

March 12

Discrimination has no place in our society. Every person deserves to live authentically without fear of harassment or denial of basic rights. Revoking the ability for transgender, intersex, and non-binary individuals to obtain accurate passports that reflect their true identities is a cruel and unjustified attack. It forces these vulnerable groups into an impossible situation of being outed whenever they need to present ID, putting them at risk of violence, employment discrimination, and public humiliation. This proposed policy provides no substantive justification and merely serves to marginalize an already disadvantaged community. It disregards decades of precedent allowing gender marker changes on passports and is clearly motivated by the administration's broader agenda of rolling back protections for LGBTQ+ Americans. Defending the dignity and equality of all people should be a core principle, not something to be bargained away for political gain. I urge you to speak out forcefully against this discriminatory policy and defend the right of every citizen to access accurate identity documents, free from invasive scrutiny into personal characteristics irrelevant to passport issuance. Transgender lives are under attack, and it is imperative that our laws and government treat them with the respect they deserve as equal members of our society. Reject this hateful agenda and stand up for liberty and justice for all.
