I am a mother of two school-age children, a teacher, and a proud member of my community in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I am concerned for the disregard our current administration and leadership are showing for laws and ethics in their decisions, words, and actions. The president has just stated that he fully sees possibilities for him to have a third term as president, with no regard whatsoever for our Constitutional limits. DOGE is walking in and out of federal institutions with full authority and access to sensitive materials, without the proper checks and safeguards required to be in place to view that information. People are being grabbed off the street by non-identified, plainclothes ICE, DHS, or other law enforcement officials, then given little to no due process. Some are even being taken off U.S. soil without any chance of due process. Our institutions and places of learning such as the Smithsonian and schools are being told what is and is not history by a particular political group and point of view, instead of being curated by scholars. I could go on with more examples, but the bottom line is that this leadership is not representing my America. This is not the America that I believe exists in our laws and systems of justice. It is not a perfect country and can always learn from its mistakes, growing better for all of its inhabitants. But what I see now is not growth but recession. This is not a championing of American ideals, human rights, or justice -- and this is not the America I wish for my children to grow up in. Please hold our leadership accountable to the rules, laws, and ethics of our nation. Please speak up today for all of us here in Wisconsin who believe in our country and what it stands for, but are watching it be stripped away by one executive order after another. This must stop, and I am asking you to be a strong voice for us, the people who elected you.
