Protect USPS from privatization and service cuts

To: Rep. Moore, Sen. Justice, Sen. Capito

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is a cherished public institution that provides essential services to communities across the country, especially in rural areas. Privatizing this crucial infrastructure would be detrimental to American citizens and businesses that rely on affordable, reliable mail delivery. Wells Fargo's leaked memo outlines a disturbing plan to dismantle the USPS by selling off profitable components, raising prices by up to 140%, and decimating the unionized workforce through mass layoffs and cutting pension and healthcare benefits. This scheme is motivated solely by corporate greed, not the public good. The USPS enjoys broad public support precisely because it operates as a service rather than a profit-driven business. Privatization would inevitably lead to reduced services, especially for rural Americans, as a private entity would likely cut unprofitable routes. It would also jeopardize the USPS's role in delivering vital medical supplies, election ballots, and financial services to all corners of the nation. Instead of capitulating to corporate interests, the USPS should be strengthened and expanded to offer more services like postal banking. Its unionized workforce, which has long provided decent jobs, should be protected rather than attacked. I urge you to firmly reject any attempts to privatize this essential public good and instead work to fortify the USPS for generations to come.
