An Open Letter

To: Sen. Grover, Rep. Shepherd

From: A constituent in Provo, UT

March 31

I am only able to live because of Social Security Disability, Medicare and Medicaid. My teenage boys likewise only have a roof over their heads and food to eat because of it. I've just heard that the Trump administration is planning to sell Provo's social security administration office building. Supposedly as a cost-saving measure. This would not save costs. Either they'll be kicked out of the building and have to find another location, or the new owners will let them stay but either way they'll begin having to pay very high rent. "Cost saving" can't be the real reason unless the people saying that don't understand what that even means. It makes me very nervous that the real play is that it's a step toward simply closing the office down, firing the employees who live in our community, cutting Social Security itself. I can't travel, if I need to deal with something SSA related, where would I even go if this office is closed? Call wait times, appointments are already so far off it's ridiculous. Please do what you can to bring voices together to tell the Federal Executive branch to stop trying to sell off buildings in Utah! (Outcry apparently worked to get them to back off the other 3 buildings they previously targeted.) The buildings are used well and necessary to life-saving and sustaining services for millions of Americans. I'm disabled. That does not make me worthless. It doesn't mean I should be "left for dead". (A sentiment the President has expressed about permanently disabled folks.) You represent me, I hope you will also defend me.
