The reckless and potentially illegal handling of highly sensitive national security information regarding military operations against the Houthis in Yemen is deeply concerning. Sharing operational details about imminent strikes, including targets, weapons to be deployed, and attack sequencing over an unsecured messaging app like Signal represents a serious breach of protocol and a threat to the safety of American personnel. This incident highlights a disregard for established security practices and a failure to safeguard classified information crucial to our national defense. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's decision to transmit such sensitive data over an unclassified channel was profoundly misguided, even more so by inadvertently including a member of the media in the communications. National Security Advisor Michael Waltz's coordination of these discussions on Signal may have violated provisions of the Espionage Act governing the handling of defense information. The American people deserve leaders who will act with the utmost discretion and vigilance when it comes to protecting intelligence sources, methods, and the lives of those carrying out dangerous missions abroad. Failure to do so erodes trust in our national security apparatus. In light of this egregious lapse in judgment that could have compromised operational security, I urge you to seriously consider seeking the resignations of Secretary Hegseth and National Security Advisor Waltz. Their actions demonstrated an unacceptable level of carelessness that no administration should tolerate when safeguarding the nation's most sensitive secrets is at stake.
