The USDA's $1 billion cancellation of local food purchasing for schools and food banks appears to be another Trump administration ploy to funnel funds towards large corporations owned by his fascist-leaning allies, while depriving small farms and small businesses. This undermines efforts to address food insecurity through community-based solutions that uplift local producers and regional food systems. Prompt reinstatement of this vital program is needed to demonstrate a commitment to equitable distribution of federal funds that strengthens sustainable agriculture and bolsters local economies over corporate interests.
