As someone who works in affordable housing and Permanent Supportive Housing for formerly homeless individuals, including veterans, I see every day how critical stable housing is for vulnerable populations. The Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund and the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) play key roles in addressing housing instability, and I urge you to oppose efforts to eliminate them.
• The CDFI Fund drives private investment into affordable housing and small businesses, generating $20 in local investment for every $1 in federal funding. Cutting it would undermine economic growth in underserved communities.
• The USICH ensures federal agencies coordinate effectively to combat homelessness. With homelessness rising 18% in 2024, dismantling this council would increase emergency service costs while worsening the crisis.
These cost-effective, results-driven programs promote self-sufficiency, reduce reliance on emergency services, and strengthen communities. I urge you to reject these cuts and protect Ohio’s most vulnerable.
