The tariffs on Canadian imports proposed by the Trump administration are unjustified and harmful. The claim of a national security threat from Canada is dubious at best, with the alleged fentanyl emergency actually stemming from Mexico and China rather than our northern neighbor. These tariffs will damage the U.S. economy, disrupt supply chains, and hurt American consumers and businesses through increased costs. For this reason, I urge you to support the bipartisan resolution sponsored by Senators Kaine, Warner and Klobuchar to revoke the emergency declaration and stop these misguided tariffs from taking effect. With Republicans joining Democrats in opposition, there is clear recognition that unchecked protectionism will undermine American economic interests. Rescinding these tariffs is crucial to preserving our critical trade relationship with Canada and upholding genuine national security priorities.
