This is an unconscionable plan that will severely undermine the Social Security Administration's ability to serve millions of Americans, including disabled individuals, who rely on its services. Slashing staff and closing field offices will create unacceptable delays and barriers in accessing crucial retirement, disability and survivor benefits. With the massive baby boomer population retiring, the agency is already strained and these cuts will only exacerbate the problem and make it even harder for disabled people to get the support they need. This short-sighted "efficiency" review prioritizes arbitrary cost-cutting over the real human needs of our most vulnerable citizens. We cannot allow these draconian measures to move forward. The SSA must be properly staffed and funded to fulfill its vital mission of supporting American families, seniors, and the disabled. Any so-called reform that hamstrings this essential agency's operations is a severe dereliction of duty to the public it is meant to serve.
