I am deeply concerned about the recent executive order signed on March 14, 2025, aimed at reducing the federal bureaucracy by cutting essential agencies, including the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
In New Hampshire, IMLS funding contributes approximately $1.3–$1.5 million annually to our libraries, directly supporting essential services like interlibrary loans, digital books, eAudiobooks, magazines, and specialized resources for patrons with visual impairments. These services are not luxuries; they are fundamental to education, accessibility, and lifelong learning in our communities.
Libraries are cornerstones of democracy, ensuring equitable access to information and resources for everyone, regardless of their economic background or abilities. The proposed cuts threaten to diminish or entirely eliminate these indispensable community resources.
I urge you to strongly oppose any reductions to IMLS funding. Please advocate forcefully to protect our libraries, museums, and community access to information. Our community in Hooksett and residents across New Hampshire depend on your leadership and support.
Thank you for your immediate attention to this vital issue.
