I am writing to express my strong opposition to Senator Marsha Blackburn’s bill, S.1006, which seeks to prohibit federal employees from organizing, joining, or participating in labor unions for collective bargaining or representation. This legislation is a direct attack on the rights of public servants who dedicate their careers to serving our nation, and it sets a dangerous precedent for workers’ rights across the country.
Federal employees, like all workers, deserve the fundamental right to unionize and collectively bargain for fair wages, benefits, and workplace protections. Unions play a critical role in ensuring safe working conditions, protecting whistleblowers, and advocating for policies that improve efficiency and accountability in government. By stripping these rights, this bill would not only harm federal employees but also degrade the quality of public services that millions of Americans rely on.
Furthermore, banning federal unions would weaken workforce morale, making it harder to attract and retain skilled employees in government roles. At a time when public agencies are already struggling with staffing shortages, this bill would only exacerbate the problem by discouraging talented individuals from entering public service.
The right to unionize is a cornerstone of American democracy, enshrined in decades of labor law and upheld by both Republican and Democratic administrations. This bill is a blatant attempt to silence workers, undermine labor protections, and erode the rights of those who keep our government running. I urge you to oppose S.1006 and stand up for the hardworking men and women who serve our country every day.
Please let me know where you stand on this issue. I look forward to your response and appreciate your time and consideration.
