The Trump administration's indiscriminate firing of IRS employees, particularly skilled specialists, is counterproductive and will ultimately cost more than it saves. Gutting the IRS workforce means less revenue collection and fewer audits uncovering tax evasion by corporations and wealthy individuals. Economic studies show the IRS generates far more money than it costs to operate through increased compliance. Crippling the agency's enforcement capabilities is fiscally irresponsible if the goal is truly deficit reduction. I urge reconsideration of these short-sighted cuts that undermine the government's ability to properly fund itself through fair tax collection. Investing in rebuilding IRS capacity would pay dividends by cracking down on tax cheats and raising revenues needed for critical programs and services.
