Voice of America and other U.S. international media outlets have been effectively shuttered under the current administration—an alarming decision with global consequences. These platforms reached over 360 million people each week with fact-based, unbiased journalism in more than 40 languages (USAGM, 2024). Their absence leaves a dangerous vacuum for authoritarian regimes like Russia, China, and Iran to fill with state propaganda.
VOA has long enjoyed bipartisan support because its mission transcends politics. It has served as a lifeline to truth in regions where media is censored, human rights are violated, and democracy is under attack. Dismantling it sends a signal to the world that the U.S. is no longer invested in defending truth or standing with those fighting for freedom. This is not just a communications cut—it’s a strategic failure.
Congress must act immediately to restore Voice of America and the U.S. Agency for Global Media. Reinstate its funding, independence, and global broadcasting capabilities. America cannot lead if it silences its voice. The world is watching—and authoritarian regimes are cheering.
