As a professional who has served people with developmental disabilities over decades, I and my colleagues can see that this administration is working toward re-institutionalization of people with disabilities. First, Michigan does not have the infrastructure to do any such thing and cannot afford to rebuild it. Second, institutionalization is consistently more costly and you have access to decades of data proving that. Third, it is an assault on both established civil rights and basic human dignity and will result in death, abuse, and neglect of vulnerable people. And that is best case scenario. Restructuring the Dept of Ed, the Admin for Comm Living, and Medicaid/Medicare this way creates massive problems with inaccessible solutions. This is inhumane and shameful. Watch the 1972 Willowbrook expose. That is our future under these restructures.
