Vote YES on HB 6034 & HB 6035 – Protect Our Right to Read
To: Rep. Bohnak
From: A verified voter in Marquette, MI
March 6
I urge you to support HB 6034 and HB 6035, two critical bills that protect intellectual freedom, safeguard public libraries, and uphold Michiganders’ right to read.
Public libraries are important for education and democracy. These bills make sure that books and materials are chosen, kept, and reviewed fairly and clearly. They stop unfair censorship but still allow people to share concerns in a responsible way.
HB 6034 says that a person must read a book completely before they can challenge it. They must also live in the library’s service area. This makes sure that only real, local concerns are considered, not outside political pressure. HB 6035 gives these same protections to district libraries statewide, so every community can decide what is best for them.
Censorship is growing in the U.S., and Michigan must protect the right to access information. These bills create a fair process that lets the public have a voice without allowing bans based on personal beliefs.
Please vote YES on HB 6034 and HB 6035. Protect our libraries, free speech, and the right to read.
Thank you for your time and leadership.
