Bill SB 836/HB 793 would restrict access to public education in our state, reducing the number of students in our K-12 schools and threatening the strength of Tennessee’s future workforce. This bill is a blatant violation of decades of federal and state precedent, namely the U.S. Supreme Court's decision is Plyler v. Doe. The bill wastes taxpayer money on legal battles instead of addressing the real challenges Tennessee public schools face.
As a constituent, I strongly oppose measures that punish children. It’s in our collective interest to ensure that every child can attend public school and learn the skills they need to grow into engaged, contributing members of our communities. There are real issues facing our communities that we need you to address. Please reject Bill SB 836/HB 793.
