Balanced mental health care approach for improved outcomes

To: Rep. Watson Coleman, Sen. Kim, Sen. Booker

From: A constituent in East Brunswick, NJ

March 7

The President's Make America Healthy Again Commission is misguided and poses unacceptable risks to public health. Rising chronic disease rates are a serious concern, but the proposed strategies could do more harm than good, especially by restricting access to vital mental health medications. Any attempt at reform must protect vulnerable patient populations and ensure continued access to currently available, evidence-based treatment options for conditions like depression where lack of treatment increases suicide risk. This executive order fails to provide comprehensive, nuanced solutions and should be abandoned in favor of an approach driven by established medical expertise and proven public health practices, not ideological agendas that disregard science.
