As you undoubtedly know, we learned today that a Maryland father in protected status *from* El Salvador was shipped by the Trump/Musk regime *to* El Salvador. Upon learning of this mistake, Trump indicated that they're simply nothing that can be done. Imagine an “administrative error” gets you sent to a Salvadoran prison with cruel conditions, and getting only a shrug from the leaders who have already closed the chapter on you. It’s unconscionable and evil. I demand that you speak out against this reprehensible action and that you take every possible step that you can to secure Mr. Abrego Garcia's safe return. I find it impossible to believe that Kristi Noem can go parade in front of posed prisoners for a Trump-fawning video, but no one can do a damn thing to help innocent people who have been sent there to suffer. The sadism of this administration is appalling. This is a clear violation of due process, and indicates a complete disregard for our justice system. Part of what makes America so great is our centuries of insistence on freedom for all, our work toward a more just world for all, our pursuit of truth, and assuming the best of all of our neighbors until proven otherwise. If unsubstantiated accusations are the only necessary proof to ship a person off to a death camp… how far we have fallen. This is chilling. But it will not silence us. We will continue to speak out on behalf of the vulnerable. We all agree that actual criminals should be legally pursued to protect society. We all agree that legal processes for entry to the US are necessary. But that is not what this administration’s actions reflect. President Trump could receive much higher approval ratings and unanimous support if he pursued popular, legal objectives, rather than bullying his way past our norms and legal processes. My voice is one of many calling on you all to do what is right.
